Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada but grew up in the U.S. She's worked as an editor since the year 1995. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, comments and an analysis of portrayals in popular cultures. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. She is the creator and director of executive for Feminist Frequency which is an education, non-profit site that examines the representation of women within popular media narratives. Dispelling stereotypes of women is her main focus. However, Sarkeesian also highlights issues related to specifically targeted harassment online against women and for other groups who are excluded. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in the field of political and social thought from York University. As a public speaker, she is extremely sought-after and has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Since her early years she was intrigued with gender issues as well as feminist ideas. While still at school in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency website. A woman with ambitions to start a web-series examining the representation of gender in video games was targeted by the internet campaign. The attack wasn't enough to halt her. Instead, it increased her importance as a feminist and media critic. To honor the numerous accomplishments she's made to feminist movements, she has been awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award award-winning journalist. She was also the founder and director of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit group that focuses on pop-culture representations of females.
