
Julie London (nee Peck; September 26th 1926 - October 18 1999) was an American actor and performer whose career spanned more than 40 years. London is a torch singer well-known for her soft, mellow vocals and languid contralto voice was a recording artist on more than thirty albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955-1969. The track she recorded "Cry Me a River" the track she introduced on her debut album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for her performance in the role of Dixie McCall, a nurse on the television show Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's acting career of 35 years began with film in 1944. It featured roles in the lead female in a variety of westerns. In the middle of the 1950s, she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional career. Her final studio album in 1969 however, she was able to continue to make a name for herself as the lead female character of nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency! (1972-1979), in which she appeared alongside her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
